Comment: Picture, SFSS230, was probably taken in 1950 just prior to setting off on our annual two week cruise up the Sacramento River Delta to our favorite spot at Steamboat Landing. I can still name many of the people in the photos since they were all shipmates. I’m pretty sure I’m in the picture but for the life of me can’t put my finger on my photo. I was tall for my age and might be the third enlisted guy from the right, with the cocked hat and scowl on his face standing directly in front of the tallest guy in the back row, Tom Conroy. Three of us in the photo went on to attend the US Naval Academy but to my knowledge only Tom McReynolds, front row side right holding the pennant up, graduated. I dropped out after plebe summer when the upper class returned and a ton of hazing started …. couldn’t handle the academics plus the hazing. Went on to finish an engineering degree at the U of Washington in Seattle.
Golly, this picture brings back some great memories of good times at Aquatic Park and on the Bay in a much simpler time.
Chuck Mallary, just turned 81. (Sept 2018)
Photos 233 to 241 were recently (3/20) submitted by Alain Vercammen-Grandjean, who was in Flying Cloud (SSS128) from 1963 to 1965. Alain is the handsome lad in photos 233 and 234. He currently lives in Bruxelles, Belgium. Thanks for the photos, Alain.
